ABOUT US

Swansea and West Wales Occupational Safety Group may hold pride of place amongst the seventy or so Occupational Safety Groups, which are members of the Safety Groups UK, affiliated to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Founded in 1943 the Swansea and West Wales Occupational Safety Group is committed to improving occupational health and safety in the Swansea and West Wales region. Over one hundred local organizations varying from heavy industry, manufacturing, service sector to local government are members.

We have an annual programme of meetings and events. Monthly meetings, at which guest speakers discuss a varied selection of safety related subjects, are held, generally, during the afternoon of the last Wednesday of the month. An Officer from the Health and Safety Executive normally attends these meetings updating the membership on safety related legislation and guidance.

Two social events are held each year – Safety Quiz and Dinner Dance & Awards Ceremony.

For European Health and Safety Week during October, a free half-day certificated course on a relevant subject is held for members.

June sees the culmination of our year with the Annual Alec Blackburn Memorial Seminar organized in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.

The Swansea and West Wales Occupational Safety Group offers a Small Business Information Centre, sponsorship for the NEBOSH Certificate, CITB Safety Passport and IOSH Managing and Working Safely for employees of small and medium size enterprises.

Membership of Swansea and West Wales Occupational Safety Group is seen as a commitment to good health and safety management.

Membership costs are kept low – presently £50.00 per year to encourage small and medium sized enterprises to join our group.
